How Do Dental Implants Work?

Step 1

The process of replacing a tooth with dental implants can take from 3-12 months depending on each patient. X-rays, dental impressions and a detailed examination are required to determine if a patient is a candidate for dental implants. If your case is particularly complex, we may refer you to a specialist for your surgical implant placement.

Once we’ve determined that dental implants are right for you, we can move on to the implantation process. We will surgically anchor a titanium post into the jaw bone. This anchor must be completely healed and integrated into the bone in order for it to work properly, so you will be given some time to recuperate.

Once the post is fully healed and securely fastened into the jaw bone, we will have you come back into our office. At this point, we can secure an artificial tooth or crown to the post. This crown will look and feel very similar to a natural tooth; restoring your ability to eat, speak, and smile normally.
