Family Dentistry in St. Albert

Oral health is important for patients of all ages. From babies to grandparents, everyone should see their dentist on a regular basis to ensure they’re enjoying the benefits of oral health.

At Otara Dental, we’re equipped and ready to serve your family, from its oldest members to its youngest.

Make Your Child’s First Visit a Positive Experience

By making your child’s first dental visit fun, we hope to help them develop a positive association with oral health throughout their lifetime. That’s why we offer complimentary tours for a child’s first visit. In most cases, we don’t do any dental work on these visits; we just help your child create some fun memories in our office.

Complimentary tours for children include:

  • A ride in the chair
  • A prize
  • A new toothbrush

When Should My Child First See the Dentist?

Children should have their first visit at about two and a half years of age. By that time, most of the baby teeth have come in, so we’ll need to check for cavities as well as proper tooth and jaw development. If your child is under two and a half, but you’re worried about their oral health or development, please bring your child in.

What if My Child is Still Afraid?

If we find that a child is not ready for an examination at the first visit, the best approach is to bring them back every six months until they are comfortable with the dental office.

Children should never be forced to have an examination. If all that can be accomplished is a ride in the chair, then that is fine. It is important that their early experiences be pleasant so they will be more likely to tolerate treatment if necessary in the future.
